Car boot on a Brussels street with flattened cardboard, bagged rubble and a rolled carpet, sorted before a Recypark trip

Recyparks explained

Recypark in Brussels: locations, rules and what you can bring

A Recypark is one of the six regional recycling parks run by Bruxelles-Propreté, where Brussels residents drop off bulky waste, appliances, garden waste, rubble and household chemicals themselves. At Buda, Demets, Humanité and Sud you can bring most sorted waste, up to 3 m³ a day without charge, as long as you show your identity card and pay any fees by bank card. If a whole cellar or flat would take several car trips, we clear it in one visit at a fixed price.

What is a Recypark in Brussels?

A Recypark is a regional recycling park in the Brussels-Capital Region where private individuals bring sorted bulky and special waste. All six are run by Bruxelles-Propreté, the regional cleanliness agency that also goes by Net Brussel and ARP-GAN.

You will meet several names for this kind of place. French speakers say déchetterie or parc à conteneurs, Dutch speakers say containerpark or recyclagepark, and in English people say container park or recycling park. The agency's own brand is Recypark, written with a capital R and no space.

A Recypark is meant for waste that will not fit in a bag, such as a three-seater sofa, a chest freezer or leftover paint. Residual waste is refused: it goes in the white bag, as our Brussels bin bag guide explains. The six sites counted 386,580 visits in 2025.

This page comes from Bulky Waste Brussels, a private collection company that is not part of Bruxelles-Propreté. The rules below are taken from the official Bruxelles-Propreté Recypark page (opens in a new tab) and were checked on 2 October 2026.

All six Recypark locations in Brussels

Bruxelles-Propreté runs six Recyparks: four open to every resident of the Region and two reserved for residents of specific communes. The table shows where each one is and who may enter; each Recypark's own page gives the full address, opening hours and local rules.

Recypark opening hours: standard, Demets and Woluwe-Saint-Pierre

Buda, Humanité, Sud and Auderghem share one timetable, open every day with late evenings on Monday to Wednesday and Sunday, and closing at 16:15 from Thursday to Saturday. Recypark Demets and Recypark Woluwe-Saint-Pierre are never open on Sundays or Mondays and close earlier on several weekdays. At busy times the last entry is 30 minutes before closing, and no seasonal timetable is published, so the same hours apply all year.

Recypark access rules: ID, bank card and vehicle limits

To enter a Recypark you must live in the Brussels-Capital Region, show your identity card or proof of domicile, and arrive in a vehicle under 3.5 tonnes gross weight. Any fees are paid by bank card only.

  • Proof of residence: your identity card (carte d'identité) or proof of domicile. If there is doubt about where the waste comes from, staff may record the details on your ID card.
  • Payment: bank card only, no cash, for everything charged per piece, per bag or as a flat fee.
  • Vehicle weight: a maximum gross vehicle weight of 3.5 t (poids total au sol).
  • On foot or by bike: pedestrians and cyclists are let in, but a driver may not leave the car in the queue and walk in.
  • No booking: none of the six fixed Recyparks asks for an appointment.

Can expats without a Belgian eID use a Recypark?

The official wording is only "identity card (or proof of domicile)", and Bruxelles-Propreté publishes no list of accepted documents. If you only have a foreign passport or a new residence card, check with Bruxelles-Propreté before you load the car.

Height and trailer rules at Brussels Recyparks

Vehicles over 1.85 m high, and city cars towing a trailer, must use Recypark Demets or Recypark Humanité instead of Buda or Sud. A vehicle that is both taller than 1.85 m and towing a trailer may only use Humanité, which is also the preferred site for double-axle trailers.

Rental vans have no rule of their own beyond the 3.5 t and 1.85 m limits. The page for professionals sends every trailer and tall vehicle to Humanité only, so Humanité is the safe choice when in doubt.

What you can bring to a Recypark

A Recypark accepts most sorted household waste that is too big, too heavy or too hazardous for your bags, and much of it carries no fee. Everything must arrive sorted by category, visible and easy to reach, because you unload it into the containers yourself.

Waste the Recypark takes without charge, up to 3 m³ a day

These sorted streams carry no fee within the daily volume limit, with extra caps on a few of them:

  • household bulky waste (encombrants / grofvuil), such as sofas, wardrobes and mattresses
  • small and large household appliances
  • paper and cardboard, PMC packaging, glass bottles and jars, cork stoppers
  • hard plastics such as flower pots, and non-food packaging polystyrene (frigolite)
  • garden waste
  • ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and batteries
  • tyres removed from their rims: max 5
  • paint: max 30 litres
  • other household chemicals: max 5 litres
  • fluorescent tubes: max 10
  • vegetable oils: max 10 litres

Paid waste at the Recypark: €3.03 per piece

Building and renovation items are charged at €3.03 incl. VAT per piece: sanitary ware (a WC, sink or washbasin), window frames, doors, construction wood, garden wood, beams, shutters, insulation, PVC panelling and non-asbestos corrugated panels, marble slabs, pallets, construction glass and plasterboard. Woluwe-Saint-Pierre and Auderghem waive some of these charges, as the volume section below explains.

Rubble and plaster at the Recypark: €3.03 per bag

Loose rubble is refused: plaster, bricks, stones, gravel, concrete, cement, tiles, slabs, roof tiles, slates and sawdust must come in bags. Each bag costs €3.03 incl. VAT, may weigh at most 20 kg and should measure 50 × 80 cm, with a maximum of 20 bags. Rubble, tiles and plasterboard are also the main things our own collection does not take, so for renovation debris the Recypark is the right place.

How to prepare garden waste, mattresses, appliances and chemicals

For other household chemicals the official page says 5 litres in one place and 6 in another, so plan on 5. Mattresses and appliances from a whole home are part of what we carry out during a house clearance in Brussels; garden waste and chemicals are not.

  • Tie branches in bundles. Bring hedge trimmings, grass and leaves in manageable bags; big bags are not accepted, and trunks over 20 cm in diameter or 2 m long are refused.
  • Mattresses must be completely dry. A badly damaged mattress goes in the bulky waste container instead of the mattress fraction.
  • Fridges and freezers must be empty, appliances need their batteries and bulbs removed, and a deep-fryer must be emptied of fat.
  • Chemicals must be in a closed, labelled container: max 50 L in total, of which max 30 L of paint or varnish and max 10 L of frying oil and fat, plus at most 2 fire extinguishers of up to 10 kg each.

What the Recypark does not accept, and where it goes instead

Recyparks refuse residual waste, asbestos, gas bottles, medicines and a short list of dangerous or specialist items.

  • Asbestos is marked "coming soon" on the Buda and Demets site plans, but it is still refused everywhere.
  • Taking items or waste away from a Recypark is forbidden, even an object someone else has just dropped off.

Recypark volume limits, the €121 flat fee and commune restrictions

At Buda, Demets, Humanité and Sud you can bring up to 3 m³ per day, charged and uncharged waste counted together; above 3 m³ a flat fee of €121 incl. VAT applies. The Demets opening announcement phrases the limit as 3 m³ per day and per vehicle.

Auderghem and Woluwe-Saint-Pierre work differently. Their limit is 2 m³ per day, and a bigger load is refused at the entrance rather than charged. They also admit only people domiciled in, or with a second residence in, their own group of communes, and private individuals only.

Recypark closure days and holiday hours in Brussels

Buda, Demets, Humanité, Sud and Auderghem close on 1 January, the third Sunday of September, 1 November, 11 November and 25 December. Woluwe-Saint-Pierre closes on every public holiday as well as on the third Sunday of September.

  • Buda, Humanité, Sud and Auderghem close at 18:00 on 24 and 31 December, or at 15:00 when the date falls on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday.
  • Demets closes at 15:00 on 24 and 31 December when the date falls on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday.
  • Woluwe-Saint-Pierre closes at 15:00 on 24 and 31 December, or at 18:00 when the date falls on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

Public holidays and strikes at the Recyparks

Other public holidays usually mean normal hours: on 15 August 2026 every Recypark except Woluwe-Saint-Pierre opened from 09:00 to 16:15. Strikes can shut a site at short notice, as on 25 August 2026, when Buda and Woluwe-Saint-Pierre stayed closed, so check the Bruxelles-Propreté news before you leave.

How to prepare a Recypark visit: sorting and quiet times

The quickest Recypark visit starts at home: sort the load by category and go when the site is quiet. Vehicles carrying unsorted or refused waste are not let in.

  • Group your load by container: bulky waste, wood, treated wood, metal, garden waste, rubble, cardboard, hard plastic, plasterboard, appliances, chemicals, tyres and mattresses.
  • Flatten cardboard boxes, bag the rubble and bundle the branches before you set off.
  • Pack what you will unload first on top, since you empty the car yourself.
  • Have your ID card or proof of domicile and your bank card within reach at the gate.
  • Put clothes and shoes in bags of max 60 L for the textile bank that every Recypark has.

Quietest times at each Recypark

Skip the trip to the Recypark: we collect bulky waste from your home

If emptying a cellar, an attic or a whole flat would mean several car trips to a Recypark, we clear it in one visit instead. A two-person crew with a box truck carries everything out of your home, and the price covers transport, sorting and disposal fees.

The price is fixed from your photos before anything is collected, and nothing is added on the day. Small clearances such as a garage, attic or cellar start from €250 and usually cost €250–600; the full ladder is on our page about bulky waste collection prices in Brussels. You send photos and your commune, agree a time, and our collection process does the rest. It usually beats repeated Recypark trips in these cases:

  • No car, or a load that would fill a hatchback five times over.
  • A whole flat on an upper floor.
  • More than 3 m³, which costs €121 at the open sites and is refused at Auderghem and Woluwe-Saint-Pierre.
  • No time during opening hours, as when Demets closes at 13:45 on a Tuesday.

Recypark Mobile: the temporary drop-off point in your commune

The Recypark Mobile in Brussels stops in volunteer communes for 3 to 10 days in autumn and spring, for residents of the host commune only, and refuses large appliances, construction waste and all tyres.

Recyparks for professionals in Brussels

Companies with a registered office in the Brussels Region may use Buda, Demets, Humanité and Sud, but not Auderghem, Woluwe-Saint-Pierre or the Recypark Mobile. They show official company documents, pay by card only and may make one visit per day per vehicle.

Professional rates differ: household-type bulky waste costs €121 incl. VAT per vehicle per day even below 3 m³, and bagged rubble €4.48 per bag. The full list is on the Bruxelles-Propreté page for professionals (opens in a new tab), in French.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an appointment to go to a Recypark in Brussels?

No. None of the six fixed Recyparks asks for a booking: you drive up, show your ID and join the queue. At busy times the last car is let in 30 minutes before closing, so don't arrive at the last minute.

Can I use a Brussels Recypark if I live outside the Brussels Region?

As a rule, no: you must be domiciled in the Brussels-Capital Region. The only published exception is Drogenbos, whose residents may use Recypark Humanité, and Recypark Sud by car only.

What is not accepted at a déchetterie in Brussels?

Residual waste, medicines, asbestos, roofing, gas bottles, explosives, engines and car parts, soil and sand, and tyres still on their rims are all refused. Unsorted loads are turned away too. Medicines go to a pharmacy, and for asbestos or gas bottles the official advice is the supplier or Brussels Environment on 02/775.75.75.

Can I pay cash at the Recypark?

No. The Recyparks take payment by bank card only. That covers the €3.03 charges per piece or per bag and the €121 flat fee above 3 m³.

Can someone take my bulky waste away instead of me driving to the Recypark?

Yes, when it is a clearance rather than one piece. We are a paid clearance company: a two-person crew carries a cellar, an attic or a whole flat out of your home and loads it into our truck. Photos also show the floor and lift access. The price is fixed from your photos before the job, and small clearances start from €250.
